KGO TIDAL WETLAND MITIGATION &
    PROJECT

ANALYTICAL & DESIGN ELEMENTS

  • Real-time field gaging of tide elevations along principal slough connecting to SF Bay.
  • Tidal benchmark survey assessment and tidal characteristics determination
  • Determination of equilibrium hydraulic geometry and plan form for tidal slough channels
  • Hydrodynamic model formulation and simulations over anticipated tide ranges
  • Collaboration with project wetland biologist in matching tide ranges and zonal plant establishment

   COMPREHENSIVE:

Following plan implementation in January 1995, four annual monitoring surveys (March 1996 –Oct. 2000) were conducted. The monitoring included re-surveys of marsh plain transects, drainage channel cross-sections, and MHW inundated area computations. A yearly report was prepared which consisted of a description of survey methods, comparative marsh transects for the as-built, and year 1-5 monitoring periods, as well as comparative channel cross-sections, and an explanation of observed trends. As of Year 2000, the client’s monitoring responsibilities were deemed complete with full wetland revegetation and a self-maintaining tidal drainage system.

DATE: Completed January 1995
LOCATION: Fremont, CA
CLIENT: KGO-AM Radio

GOALS: Restore tidal action to one acre of filled land adjacent to existing tidal marsh; satisfy mitigation requirements of the US Army Corps of Engineers; create equilibrium hydraulic geometries for tidal channels and sediment substrate conditions favorable to rapid establishment of salt marsh vegetation.
